Genesis 28:20-21 (ESV)

Jacob had not yet come to understand how a
person relates to God. "Then Jacob made a vow, saying, 'If God will be
with me and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat
and clothing to wear, so that I come again to my father's house in peace, then
the LORD shall be my God,..."' Genesis 28:20-21 (ESV). Jacob made his
commitment to God conditioned on God doing what Jacob wanted him to do. God
demands our surrender to him with no conditions because he is God, not us.
LORD, you have shown me areas of my life that are not surrendered to you, and I
ask for strength to submit these to you today.
