Exodus 34:12 (ESV)

This was God's warning to his people when they came to live in a land populated by people who did not live in obedience to him. "Take care, lest you make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land to which you go, lest it become a snare in your midst" Exodus 34:12 (ESV). God did not want his people to want to fit into this culture which surrounded them, but to live and think like God told them to live and think. Lord, it is hard to live in a culture that does not honor you and not be influenced by it. Reveal to me any area of my values or lifestyle that are contrary to your will. I want to hate the things you hate and love the things that you love.

Acts 8: 15-17 (God's Word) Originally published 12/27/2013 The apostles realized the Holy Spirit was essential for the Samaritans to live in obedience to Christ. "Peter and John went to Samaria and prayed that the Samaritans would receive the Holy Spirit. (Before this the Holy Spirit had not come to any of the Samaritans. They had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.) Then Peter and John placed their hands on them, and the Samaritans received the Holy Spirit" Acts 8:15-7 (God's Word). Lord, I ask that your Holy Spirit guide me in all that I think and do.

Mark 14: 57-61 (God's Word) Originally published 10/26/2013 "Then some men stood up and gave false testimony against him, but their statements did not agree. We heard him say, 'I'll tear down this temple made by humans, and in three days I'll build another temple, one not made by human hands.' But their testimony did not agree even on this point. So the chief priest stood up in the center and asked Jesus, 'Don't you have any answer to what these men testify against you?' But he was silent" Mark 14:57-61 (God's Word). I can't imagine the pain of being scourged or nailed to a cross, but I do know what it is like to have people say things about you that hurt.
