James 1:12 (God's Word)

A spiritual test comes when we are obeying God and something happens that is terrible. We have to decide whether to keep on obeying God or change our behavior. “Blessed are those who endure when they are tested. When they pass the test, they will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him" James 1:12 (God's Word.) Loving God and obeying God are the same thing in the Bible. ("If you love me you will keep my commandments" John 15:14.) Trusting God enough to continue to obey him when it looks disastrous leads to life. Lord, help me to be obedient regardless of the apparent consequences.

Acts 8: 15-17 (God's Word) Originally published 12/27/2013 The apostles realized the Holy Spirit was essential for the Samaritans to live in obedience to Christ. "Peter and John went to Samaria and prayed that the Samaritans would receive the Holy Spirit. (Before this the Holy Spirit had not come to any of the Samaritans. They had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.) Then Peter and John placed their hands on them, and the Samaritans received the Holy Spirit" Acts 8:15-7 (God's Word). Lord, I ask that your Holy Spirit guide me in all that I think and do.

Mark 14: 57-61 (God's Word) Originally published 10/26/2013 "Then some men stood up and gave false testimony against him, but their statements did not agree. We heard him say, 'I'll tear down this temple made by humans, and in three days I'll build another temple, one not made by human hands.' But their testimony did not agree even on this point. So the chief priest stood up in the center and asked Jesus, 'Don't you have any answer to what these men testify against you?' But he was silent" Mark 14:57-61 (God's Word). I can't imagine the pain of being scourged or nailed to a cross, but I do know what it is like to have people say things about you that hurt.
