"During those many days the king of Egypt died, and the people of Israel groaned because of their slavery and cried out for help. Their cry for rescue from slavery came up to God. And God heard their groaning, and God remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob. God saw the people of Israel---and God knew" Exodus 2:23-25 (ESV). God had not forgotten his covenant promises, and he had always been ready to keep them, but the people of Israel were not ready to leave Egypt. God had to wait until it was so bad, they would be ready to listen and leave. Lord, I have experienced that sometimes; you do not help me until I am desperate enough to do whatever you tell me to do. You knew my trouble all along, but you were waiting for me to be ready to pay the price for obedience.
