Leviticus 16; Hebrews 4:14-16 (ESV)

God set aside one day of the year for the people to have the high priest to ask God to forgive them for their disobedience. All 34 verses of Leviticus 16 describe how the priest must cleanse himself physically and spiritually to go before God to ask forgiveness for the disobedience of the people. The priest had to wash himself, wear special clothes and take the blood of a goat to insure that God would forgive the people for the sins they committed during the past year. Jesus changed that for us. "Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need" Hebrews 4:14-6 (ESV). Lord, what a blessing to be able to ask you to forgive me for my disobedience yesterday and not have to wait a year to know that you plead my case to the Father.
