Numbers 1:44-46 (ESV)

God was leading his people to take the land of Canaan, so he ordered Moses and Aaron to make a list of every single man who was able to fight. "These are those who were listed, whom Moses and Aaron listed with the help of the chiefs of Israel, twelve men, each representing his fathers' house. So all those listed of the people of Israel, by their fathers' houses, from twenty years old and upward, every man able to go to war in Israel---all those listed were 603,550" Numbers 1:44-46 (ESV). Most of everything God does in the universe is without the help of people, but on this earth he chooses to work through people. God could have caused every one of the Canaanites to drop dead, and the people of Israel could have walked into the land and settled where they wanted, but he gave them the task of taking the land. Every single follower of Christ also has a job to do to establish the Kingdom of God on earth, and they will be held accountable for whether or not they do their job. No one can hide or is left out. Lord, make clear to me today what you want me to do, and give me the wisdom and determination to do the work that you have assigned to me.

Acts 8: 15-17 (God's Word) Originally published 12/27/2013 The apostles realized the Holy Spirit was essential for the Samaritans to live in obedience to Christ. "Peter and John went to Samaria and prayed that the Samaritans would receive the Holy Spirit. (Before this the Holy Spirit had not come to any of the Samaritans. They had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.) Then Peter and John placed their hands on them, and the Samaritans received the Holy Spirit" Acts 8:15-7 (God's Word). Lord, I ask that your Holy Spirit guide me in all that I think and do.

Mark 14: 57-61 (God's Word) Originally published 10/26/2013 "Then some men stood up and gave false testimony against him, but their statements did not agree. We heard him say, 'I'll tear down this temple made by humans, and in three days I'll build another temple, one not made by human hands.' But their testimony did not agree even on this point. So the chief priest stood up in the center and asked Jesus, 'Don't you have any answer to what these men testify against you?' But he was silent" Mark 14:57-61 (God's Word). I can't imagine the pain of being scourged or nailed to a cross, but I do know what it is like to have people say things about you that hurt.
