Lamentations 5:11-16 (God's Word)

Most of the trouble that comes in our lives is the result of disobeying God, and it is always devastating. I don't think anyone in our country would believe that the Marathon bombers were acting in obedience to the God of the Bible. Jeremiah saw it centuries ago. "Women of Zion are raped, so are the girls in the cities of Judah. Our leaders are hung by their hands. Our older leaders are shown no respect. Our young men work at the mill, and our young men no longer play their music. There is no joy left in our hearts. Our dancing has turned into mourning. The crown has fallen from our head. Because we have sinned, it has been disastrous for us" Lamentations 5:11-16 (God's Word). Lord, please give me discipline and complete obedience to you so that my life would be a force for holiness in this world and not for devastation.

Acts 8: 15-17 (God's Word) Originally published 12/27/2013 The apostles realized the Holy Spirit was essential for the Samaritans to live in obedience to Christ. "Peter and John went to Samaria and prayed that the Samaritans would receive the Holy Spirit. (Before this the Holy Spirit had not come to any of the Samaritans. They had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.) Then Peter and John placed their hands on them, and the Samaritans received the Holy Spirit" Acts 8:15-7 (God's Word). Lord, I ask that your Holy Spirit guide me in all that I think and do.

Mark 14: 57-61 (God's Word) Originally published 10/26/2013 "Then some men stood up and gave false testimony against him, but their statements did not agree. We heard him say, 'I'll tear down this temple made by humans, and in three days I'll build another temple, one not made by human hands.' But their testimony did not agree even on this point. So the chief priest stood up in the center and asked Jesus, 'Don't you have any answer to what these men testify against you?' But he was silent" Mark 14:57-61 (God's Word). I can't imagine the pain of being scourged or nailed to a cross, but I do know what it is like to have people say things about you that hurt.
