James 5:12 (God's Word)

God's words can be trusted, and it must be so for his followers. "Above all things, my brothers and sisters, do not take an oath on anything in heaven or on earth. Do not take an oath. If you mean yes, say yes. If you mean no, say no. Do this so that you won't be condemned" James 5:12 (God's Word). The person controlled by Christ needs no oath to assure someone that they are telling the truth. Lord, help me not to promise anything that I do not do, and when I promise something, remind me that keeping that promise is a reflection of your reliability. Remind me how serious it is to promise to pray for someone.

Acts 8: 15-17 (God's Word) Originally published 12/27/2013 The apostles realized the Holy Spirit was essential for the Samaritans to live in obedience to Christ. "Peter and John went to Samaria and prayed that the Samaritans would receive the Holy Spirit. (Before this the Holy Spirit had not come to any of the Samaritans. They had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.) Then Peter and John placed their hands on them, and the Samaritans received the Holy Spirit" Acts 8:15-7 (God's Word). Lord, I ask that your Holy Spirit guide me in all that I think and do.

Mark 14: 57-61 (God's Word) Originally published 10/26/2013 "Then some men stood up and gave false testimony against him, but their statements did not agree. We heard him say, 'I'll tear down this temple made by humans, and in three days I'll build another temple, one not made by human hands.' But their testimony did not agree even on this point. So the chief priest stood up in the center and asked Jesus, 'Don't you have any answer to what these men testify against you?' But he was silent" Mark 14:57-61 (God's Word). I can't imagine the pain of being scourged or nailed to a cross, but I do know what it is like to have people say things about you that hurt.
